Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 ankle sprain.

Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams sustained a Grade 2 left ankle sprain and is questionable for Saturday's game against FCS opponent Tennessee Tech at Sanford Stadium, according to Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart.

"It's stable. He's week-to-week," Smart said on Monday. "He's questionable for this week, but it's not a long-term issue."

Williams, projected as a potential top-five pick in next year’s NFL draft, was injured during Georgia's 34-3 win over Clemson when he was hit by a low block from running back Phil Mafah with 6:34 left in the third quarter. Mafah was penalized for an illegal block on the play.

Williams, a junior from Columbus, Georgia, left the locker room at Mercedes-Benz Stadium wearing a walking boot. Despite the injury, he recorded two tackles for loss during the game. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 265 pounds, Williams is currently ranked as the No. 2 prospect for the 2025 NFL draft by ESPN analyst Field Yates, trailing only Tennessee edge rusher James Pearce Jr.

Last season, Williams earned second-team All-SEC honors from the league's coaches after leading the Bulldogs with 4.5 sacks. He was also named a freshman All-American in 2022.

Georgia is already facing several injuries along its defensive line. Senior tackle Warren Brinson exited the Clemson game with a bruised ankle, though Smart is hopeful he'll be back for the Tennessee Tech game. Additionally, tackles Xzavier McLeod (abdominal strain) and Jordan Hall (tibia stress fracture) missed the Clemson matchup.

Starting nickelback Joenel Aguero, who missed the season opener due to a pulled muscle, is also hopeful for a return this week, according to Smart.
