Pregnant para-archer Jodie Grinham clinched bronze in the women's individual compound, defeating ParalympicsGB team-mate and defending champion Phoebe Paterson Pine. This marks Grinham’s first individual Paralympic medal, following her compound mixed team silver at the 2016 Rio Games.

Despite trailing by two points after the fourth end, Haverfordwest's Grinham, who is seven months pregnant, scored 29 in the final end. Paterson Pine could only manage 26, resulting in a narrow defeat with a final score of 142-141.

"I'm really proud of myself," said Grinham, 31, who had been "in and out of hospital" in Paris this week. "It's been tough, but as long as I’m healthy and the baby’s healthy, I knew we could compete. If I shot well, I believed I could come back with a medal."

Grinham described her baby’s constant kicking as a supportive reminder of the positive energy she carries. "It's almost like the baby is saying, ‘What’s going on? It’s really loud, mummy, what are you doing?’"

Grinham will be back in action on Monday, teaming up with Nathan MacQueen in the mixed team compound event.
